A little ‘insignificant’ fishing boat chased by wandering guillemots, becalmed by the vastness of a glorious dappled sea.
Sometimes you chance upon amazing discoveries, this was my first introduction to the work of James D. Preston and I was hooked straight away.
This picture proudly hangs in my own collection, i marvel at its complex simplicity and still get lost to the beauty of his sky and sea.
To have the opportunity to represent James’ work at Taurean Arts and to share this fascination of light with others from such a talented and renown artist is an immense pleasure personally, as it brings all the memories back to the day i first saw his fisherman’s boat on its dappled sea.
Background
James was born in Birmingham, but moved to Duffield, Derbyshire aged 16. He studied “History of Art at Derby Art College’ and currently lives in Holbrook where he is constantly inspired by the beauty and the light of the surrounding countryside. He produces work in oils in an impressionist style of the local area and the far reaching places that he has travelled to and exhibits in.
His confidence and ,mastery of light depth and colour have made James one of the UK’s highly acclaimed landscape artists and has work in many private collections worldwide from Oregon to Tokyo.
James likes to produce a variety of preliminary sketches on location initially before finally capturing the finished details giving his work a rich depth of accuracy and realism.
